More of the Deadliest Men Who Ever Lived Taschenbuch – 1. Januar 2009

    4,5 von 5 Sternen (48)

This book is a collection of profiles of superlative warriors of such strength, skill, courage and ferocity that they could – and often did – turn the tide of battle. It follows Kirchner’s earlier collection, The Deadliest Men , published in 2001, but the individuals included in this second edition are in no way second to those in the original volume. Each of the warriors herein dominated a violent environment and triumphed against overwhelming odds. They fought for blood, not sport, with the weapons of individual combat: fist, knife, sword, bow, pistol, rifle and machine gun. They range from Western lawmen to big-city cops, from crusaders to fighter pilots, from a boy shepherd in Judea to two women ranchers in Kenya. Most of them fought for something beyond survival – a cause, a code, a creed or a country – while others fought solely in defence of their lives, a worthy enough purpose in itself. Some of them are well known; others are not so well known, though they deserve to be. It seems that the least we owe the hero is that we remember him. Without remembrance, without honour, we cannot expect to have such men when we need them. Without an awareness of what has been done, we do not realise what can be done, nor are we inspired to do that which should be done. About the Author Paul Kirchner has been a writer and illustrator for more than 25 years. His work has appeared in publications ranging from Marvel comics to The Wall Street Journal to Paladin author Jeff Cooper’s books.

5,0 von 5 Sternen "Deadliest Men" - My favorite two reads of the last six months
Bewertet in den USA am17. Juni 2013
Kirchner's "Deadliest Men" books were strongly recommended to me by a long time friend who is retired from a career in 5th Group Special Forces and now a military contractor, a man I would describe as potentially quite lethal, himself.

Great read! Almost as good as the first, but I do not mean to damn the sequel by faint praise. I would give Kirchner's first book six stars if a six star rating could be given. I look forward to yet another sequel of "Deadliest Men", and I hope the author is listening.

Each chapter is a succinct and academically well researched synopsis of the life and times of one particularly deadly individual (or pair of individuals, in a couple of cases). This book could be described as the perfect 15 minute read, one chapter at a time. Or, you can pick it up after supper and finish it as 3 AM, like I did both it and the "Deadliest Men" before it. Truly awe inspiring!

Read Paul's original book, it was legit. Had to get the next volume, and so far, its pretty good! lots of great characters from history. Must read for mindset, tactics, and just basic knowledge on those who made a significant difference.

4,0 von 5 Sternen Lessons from those who prevailed

Excellent short stories filled with many lessons on some amazing people, many of whom are relatively obscure. A common theme to most is they took their martial art seriously and practiced. John Wesley Hardin, for example, practiced dry fire for 2 hours a day according to his land lady. Rene Fonck, the top Allied ace of both World Wars, advised other pilots to "Avoid all excess and train like a prize fighter." Mastery of a skill is only achieved through practice and most of the people in this book had both the skills mastered and the proper mindset to prevail.

      5,0 von 5 Sternen i couldn't put it down.

This book was fascinating. I have been a student of combative arts for a decade and I had never heard of some of these people. The author pulls no punches. He gives you the good side and the bad side for the people he is writing about.

Paul Kirchner tells more riveting stories about real heroes in this second volume of Deadliest Men. This time around, he's a little less picky about the warriors he includes and because of that, people like Saburo Sakai and several snipers are included, giving a well-rounded view of the different types of militants. Simply put, this volume expands on the first with a greater variety of historic men (and a few women), more fluid story telling and more of Paul Kirchner's awesome illustrations.
