EXPERT KNOWLEDGE WOOD GLUES BY MANUFACTURER
Quality of Titebond, Bindulin and other wood glues
Wood glue is an indispensable tool in woodworking - whether for furniture construction, repairs or creative DIY projects.
Choosing the right wood glue is crucial for the quality and durability of the joints.
Tip: For precise use, a bottle with a fine dosing tip is often required to apply the glue evenly and in a controlled manner. When gluing large areas, it is important to distribute the wood glue evenly to ensure continuous adhesion without weak spots.
Titebond - The professional wood glues
Titebond is one of the best-known brands in the wood glues sector. Titebond products are characterised by their high quality, exceptional adhesive strength and versatility. TheTitebondOriginal Wood Glue, which is ideal for furniture construction, interior design and woodwork, is particularly noteworthy. This wood glue provides a strong, durable bond and dries quickly, making it a favourite of many carpenters and DIY enthusiasts.
Another outstanding product from Titebond is theTitebondII Premium Wood Glue, which is also Waterproof and can therefore also be used outdoors to a limited extent. With a higher resistance to moisture and temperature, this wood glue is particularly suitable for garden and outdoor projects.
Titebond also offersTitebondIII Ultimate Wood Glue, which offers one of the best Waterproof properties. Ideal for demanding uses that are exposed to heavy use and the elements, such as in the Production of garden furniture or boat building.
Bindan from Bindulin - Traditional wood glues
Bindan is a brand known for its high-quality wood glues, which deliver excellent results on a wide variety of wood types such as oak or spruce and in various uses. Bindan wood glues are ideal for both professional use and DIY enthusiasts.
Bindan white glue is a classic among wood glues and is frequently used in furniture production and modelling. It is characterised by very good adhesion and fast drying. For projects where high water resistance is required, Bindan offers various D3 wood glues that have been specially designed for damp environments.
In addition to the standard wood glues, Bindan also offers special products for the repair of wood and for the construction of complex wooden structures. TheBindanflash offers particularly fast drying and high initial adhesion, making it ideal for quick repairs or production processes. Solvent-free, Glue line transparent and fast curing characterise this product.
Bindulin D4 wood glues, which offer particularly high resistance to water and weathering, deserve special mention. These wood glues are ideal for outdoor use, in particular for furniture production in garden areas, the construction of terraces and for use in damp environments such as bathrooms or kitchens.
Bond strength of glued joints
The bond strength of glued joints is tested according to different standards. Titebond glues are tested according to the ASTM D-905 standard, while Bindulin has its wood glues tested according to EN 204/205. Basically, it can be said that every modern wood glue has a greater strength than the wood to be glued. This means that a glue joint produced according to the manufacturer's specifications for the glue (pot life, clamping time, pressing pressure, temperature...) will not give way until the wood next to the glue line cracks. Wood is used as the test material for the ASTM standard, which is why the stated bond strength values are based on the breaking strength of the tested wood. The DIN standard allows tests to be carried out with special plastic, which results in much higher breaking strength values. The strength values are therefore only comparable in relation to one standard (in our case the ASTM standard for Titebond and the EN standard for Bindulin). However, if the products of one manufacturer are compared with each other, the values allow conclusions to be drawn about the strength. This can be useful, for example, if you have to create a glue joint under the worst possible conditions. In this case, you should choose the wood glue with the highest bond strength, as this can still achieve sufficient strength even under poor conditions.
Matériau du manche Manufacturers and products
In addition to the brands mentioned above, there are also other manufacturers that offer high-quality wood glues for a wide range of uses.
DICTUM Fish glues is a traditional, animal-based glue that is particularly valued in the restoration of antiques and furniture making. It offers high flexibility and is reversible, which means that it can be dissolved again if necessary without damaging the material - ideal for restoration.
Kövulfix pressure-sensitive adhesive is another product that can be found in many households and workshops. The solvent-based glue offers strong adhesion and is ideal for rubber (soles, seals), rainwear, hard PVC and soft foam (polyurethane foam, carpet backing), paper, cardboard, textiles, felt, cork and wood.
Ber Fix epoxy adhesive is also a good choice for professional and private bonding work. The two-component adhesive is characterised by its fast drying time and high load-bearing capacity, which makes it particularly suitable for quick repairs. Bonds metal, wood, glass, hard plastics, porcelain, ivory and precious stones, among others. Resistant to water and chemicals.
The right wood glue for every project
Choosing the right wood glue is crucial for the stability and durability of your wood joints. Brands such as Titebond, Bindulin, DICTUM and others offer high quality products that deliver excellent results in both professional woodworking and DIY projects.
D1 wood glue complies with DIN EN 204, is suitable for indoor use without exposure to moisture and provides a strong bond, while D2 wood glue complies with the same standard and is ideal for indoor use with moderate exposure to moisture. D3 glues (water-resistant) are ideal for indoor areas with frequent short-term exposure to water or protected outdoor areas. D4 glues (waterproof) are labelled as waterproof. However, Waterproof in this context does not mean that the wood glue is suitable for use under water. There are special waterproof glues for this purpose.
There are also differences in the colour of the glue line after hardening. Not all wood glues cure transparently.
Whether for indoor use, outdoor use or quick repairs - with the right wood glues, you can be sure that your wood joints will be strong, durable and reliable.
Choose the wood glue (wood adhesive) that best suits your project.
