Photo Gallery Is Knut Spoiled?

A Dutch zoo has complained that Berlin zookeepers spoil their animals. Is Knut a case in point?

Since his mother rejected him, Knut has been raised by zookeeper Thomas Dörflein.

Knut has grown quickly. The director of a Rotterdam zoo, where the Berlin-raised gorilla Bokito went on a rampage, claimed Bokito was spoiled -- meaning too comfortable around humans. "My German colleagues will be in for something when Knut grows up," he said.

So far, though, Dörflein hasn't taken the bear out for pizza. "That only happened once," said Berlin Zoo curator Heiner Klös, referring to an incident with the young Bokito. "Knut is a completely different case."

Knut was once shown on TV playing on a children's plastic slide. "We put a stop to that because it's a child's slide and has nothing to do with bears," said Klös. "The animal isn't a human child. There were also hygiene factors to consider."

Knut is "getting more confident each day and is happily sleeping on his own now," says Klös -- which means Dörflein doesn't have to spend his nights anymore in the polar-bear enclosure.
