Video accessibility at Vimeo

Empowering access to professional-quality video for all

Updated: September 19, 2025

Vimeo is committed to making our platform accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that inclusive, accessible design is essential to achieving our mission — to simplify what it takes to make, manage, and share video, all in a single, easy-to-use platform.

Our accessibility standards

Vimeo strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, a globally recognized standard that ensures digital content is usable by people with a wide range of disabilities. These guidelines are referenced by the EN 301 549 standard, which underpins the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and related national laws. We are proud to note that our video player has been designed and developed with a strong focus on meeting WCAG 2.2 Level AA criteria, demonstrating our commitment to cutting-edge accessibility.

Known limitations

We recognize that not all aspects of Vimeo’s platform currently meet accessibility requirements. We are actively working to address the following known issues:

  • Image Alternatives: Some image elements include redundant or repeated alternative text. We are revising these to follow accessibility best practices.
  • Landmark Regions: Not all page elements are wrapped in proper landmark regions for assistive navigation. We are improving our structural markup to enhance screen reader compatibility.

These examples are not exhaustive. We welcome your feedback if you encounter other barriers.

Ongoing improvements

Accessibility is a continuous process. We embed inclusive thinking into our design and development cycles, guided by user feedback and internal advocacy. Our commitments include:

  • Inclusivity by Design: We consider a range of needs including motor, cognitive, visual, and auditory.
  • Beyond Compliance: We use accessibility standards as a baseline, incorporating real-world feedback to go further.
  • Accessibility Leadership: Our internal accessibility advocates promote training, peer support, and accountability across teams.
  • Partnerships: We seek to work with vendors and creators who share our commitment to digital inclusion.
