Part of Mountain Road closes for tree removal
BBCA tree found to be in a "dangerous" condition had led to the need to shut a section of the main route between the Manx capital and the north for up to three hours, the infrastructure department has said.
The closure of the northern section of the A18 Mountain Road between Ramsey and the Bungalow from 13:30 GMT until no later than 16:30 was necessary for the tree to be safely removed.
The Department of Infrastructure (DoI) said the roadside tree at the Hairpin, which is on the exit of Ramsey, had recently shifted and had become "unstable".
"If not attended to, it presents a danger to road users," the department said, adding it had to "be felled without further delay".
Access between Douglas and Sulby via the Tholt Y Will Road remained unaffected, the DoI said, and the Victory Cafe at the Bungalow, and the Creg ny Baa Hotel would both be accessible from Douglas, the south of the island, and Sulby.
