In a land not known for extremes, the Finns showed the world that they can take the heat by sweeping the awards at its annual sweat-a-thon, the World Sauna Championship.

The winner: Timo Kaukonen cheers after winning the men's Sauna World Championship in his hometown of Heinola, Finland. Kaukonen sat in a 110 degree Celsius (230 Fahrenheit ) sauna for 12 minutes and 26 seconds to win.
